2. Jakarta, Indonesia - Warming seas, he said, could deal a severe blow to Indonesia’s fishing industry, while powerful storms could buffet the country and rising seas may put much of Jakarta, the capital, under water. NYTimes
Jakarta, the capital & largest city of Indonesia; located on northwest coast of Java. It is center of government, commerce, & industry & extensive communications w/ outside world; principal gateway to rest of Indonesia. The Selamat Datang monument stands on the fountain in the center of Hotel Indonesia Roundabout. Suffers congestion due to heavy traffic in central business district.
Very picturesque! Jakarta . . . A great photo by Ricky Purnadi Riqua. I would love to visit and see more of these "Great House" structures representative of the Minangkabau culture in West Sumatra Indonesia. Ricky tells me that the music, dance, and food are equally exotic.
