"I PICK"

I've read and re-read The Daily Five and I'm ready to "read to learn" and not just "learn to read". My favorite graphics site Lettering Delights is having a great sale, tons of packages for only 50 cents. I spent just a few dollars and am squealing in delight over the cuteness. So, of course I had to make something, and of course, I want to share. This "I Pick" poster is just one way to help children pick out books that are appropriate for them. Text Structure

We started working on text structure a little bit before the break - just problem/solution and main idea/details, to start to see the differences between fiction and nonfiction. I had some sentence frames prepared, and then on a whim, we started making some foldables out of construction paper. MY KIDS LOVED IT! (And what was great is that my newcomers were able to make their own foldables and completely participate in the lesson, which is unfortunately not always the case.) In fact, they…
