Steel and kauri dining table for eight. One of my favourite combinations is recycled timber and mild steel, which is a weldable, very hard and durable type of steel. 5mm thick steel was welded to create a frame to house a tabletop 2.4m x 1.05m in size, which comfortably seats a party of eight. The tabletop was made out of Kauri Pine recovered from a house demolition in south east Melbourne. It has been inset into its steel housing, which is protected with linseed oil.
